Lombok Teachers Organize Renewable Energy Lectures with TEDC and UNRAM

Sixty vocational high school teachers from Lombok were given introductory training on renewable energy topics by experts from the Technical Education Development Centre, Bandung (TEDC Bandung) and the University of Mataram (UNRAM). The teachers were split into groups according to four renewable 'themes' -- solar, wind, hydro and bioenergy -- and matched with experts who discussed a range of topics including renewable energy sources, energy conversion, and the installation, operations and maintenance of specific technologies.

The events were conducted at three vocational high schools in Lombok: SMK 1 Kuripan (bioenergy), SMK 1 Lingsar (hydro), and SMK 3 Mataram (solar and wind). The activity was coordinated by Rina Arlianti, PEKA SINERGI's Education Specialist, and the discussions were led by Rizal Sani, Wanto and Niamul Huda from TEDC Badung and Abdul Natsir, Rahmat Sabani and Tri Rachmanto from UNRAM. Mr Natsir, who gave a lecture on Solar PV Technology and Applications, noted that "this is a good start for the sustainable development of RET in vocational schools."

At the end of each session, the SMK teachers were also given an introduction to the recently launch 'Skills Competency Standards for Renewable Energy'. These competency standards were developed by the PEKA SINERGI project and approved by the Ministry of Manpower in December 2016. The standards will form the backbone of Indonesia's national certification system for job skills in renewable energy.

As a next step, PEKA SINERGI will organize a training for the vocational teachers on competency-based assessment and training, after which the teachers will be trained and certified in technology schemes by TEDC Bandung.
