TEDC and UNRAM HOST SOLAR PV COMPETENCY TRAINING WITH EXPERT FROM UiTM MALAYSIA

Mataram, 22 & 24 March 2016 -- Dr. Sulaiman Shaari, leading expert on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia, gave a lecture and workshop at TEDC Bandung and the University of Mataram’s Faculty of Engineering on Solar PV trends, training and competencies.

The event at TEDC was held on 22 March and opened by TEDC Director Drs. Marthen Katte Patiung. Dr. Sulaimain visited UNRAM on 24 March and was introduced by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Yusron Suaidi. Both events were attended by more than one hundred students and faculty from TEDC and UNRAM. During the morning sessions, Dr. Sulaiman gave a lecture on the latest trends in global PV systems including system types, installation evolution, economics of systems, and the current state of PV in ASEAN countries.  Dr. Sulaiman further shared a more in depth analysis of the current state of systems in Indonesia and Cambodia, while demonstrating projected growth of electricity in these countries as a result of PV in the next 20 years.

Following the informational presentation, Dr. Sulaiman met with PEKA SINERGI teams members from TEDC and UNRAM to discuss the Malaysia’s training model for installation, operation and maintenance of PV systems as well as approaches for developing and implementing a competency-based training and certifications model for PV systems.

Dr. Sulaiman’s engagement with TEDC and the University of Mataram was undertaken as part of PEKA SINERGI’s mission to promote knowledge sharing, capacity building and international dialogue in the field of renewable energy training.
